Album Spotlight: David Snyderman - Different Kind of Love
David Snyderman lived in Fairbanks for 20 years, originally part of the military, he found himself drawn to the long, cold, lonely winters. Soon he found himself writing songs on the guitar inspired by his experiences in Alaska. While getting his start performing at small venues around the golden heart. You even might have seen him live, performing at places like “Ivory Jacks”, the farmers market on College Road, and street corners. He did all this while pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. David blends his style of storytelling with his bluegrass roots in order to create his signature sound. David Now lives in Florida, but his Alaskan roots still influence his music to this day.
We just received one of David's albums with very clear Fairbanks influences, A Different Kind of Love, and we enjoyed listening through it. Written in David's signature bluegrass style, it shows his Alaskan experience with lyrics like “we headed up north to Fairbanks” and “I’ve been kicking around South Cushman St.”, it's full of little easter eggs to our home state. This album is certainly Alaska Grown.
The songs that stood out the must to us here at KSUA were
Track 3: Turn Again
Track 4: Spanish Rice
Track 7: The Log
Track 14: Jacobs Song
Track 16: Brother Paul
Track 18: South Cushman St
We highly recommend giving this one a listen, as it reflects aspects of the Alaskan experience quite faithfully as well as being a genuine good listen.
