KSUA proudly presents Laura Gibson

Last modified on 2012-05-17 00:45:09 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter Laura Gibson grew up in a small isolated logging town called Coquille, in the South Coast region of Oregon, the daughter of the town’s kindergarten teacher and a forest ranger.

Since the release of 2009′s Beasts of Season, which NPR called “nothing short of a masterpiece” and Mojo called “both quietly devastating and life-affirming”, Gibson has seen her career swell to include everything from modeling in a Japanese fashion magazine, to receiving a standing ovation from an auditorium full of prison inmates, to a 3 1/2 hour improvised performance art piece with sound artist Ethan Rose and filmmaker Ryan Jeffery.

Get ready Mega-SXSW-Amazingness, this post is gonna let you avoid doing work for awhile….

Hey all, an I’m back. We’ve got lots of footage coming your way from SXSW plus lots of new music videos.

Purity Ring @ SXSW 2012!!! Not only did these two blow my mind, I saw them TWICE. Their live show was absolutely amazing, which by this video, doesnt even begin to do them justice. Look closely, and you’ll notice that the guy is not only controlling all the lights and the beat looping, but is also manipulating her voice on the spot plus playing alternative live beats loaded on those chinese lanterns looking things with drumsticks.

Lumineers @ SXSW : These guys were also great. Here is a short clip of a show we went to, that our friends Quiet Life headlined. Who by the way are making their return to Alaska the weekend of May that school is OVER. So excited for that.

Here is a preview of an upcoming documentary Quiet Life is doing about their experiences in Alaska last year. It will be a glorious return I’m sure.

Next up is the non-comprimising, blantantly ‘pretty mother f**ker’ (as quoted from the man himself) A$AP Rocky. The bass was so low and crazy, we thought our eyeballs were shaking out of our sockets. Such an amazing energized performance. And we got to meet him before the show, kinda made my heart beat supa fast.

Another amazing show I was able to catch was Grimes. While the video is dark and grainy, it still highlights why this artist has been so buzzed about the last few months. She has a presence and energy that is remarkable for learning how to use all those instruments by herself and only playing her like 5th show ever.

The Alabama Shakes absolutely killed it. Another band that has absolutely had NPR and the blogosphere buzzing with excitement and they did not disappoint.

The very first night the gang and I caught Thee Oh Sees at a free secret show that absolutely blew our minds. Chad and I were absolutely destroyed among one of the craziest crowds I’ve been apart of in a long time. Between being carried around on top of countless sweaty heads and plenty of moshing, to say the least, our first night was intense and awesome. Here is a video of them when I caught them play a few days later to a much more subdued crowd.

Well there is plenty more videos to come, but I’ll save those for another post…

but alas there is more.. we’ve got some brand new videos for ya’ll too that aren’t related to SXSW. I wasn’t jokin’ about avoiding the hell out of doing anything productive today…
